Physical or digital GTA 6?

The biggest surprise of launch week: the boxed GTA 6 has no disc. Rockstar calls it code-in-box: you buy a box with a download code inside, then download the whole game, up to 212 GB.

That changes the usual “physical vs digital” choice.

Buy digital if…

• You want to preload from the first minute (Nov 10) without waiting for a store.
• You use a PS5 Digital Edition or Xbox Series S — there’s no advantage to a box.
• You like buying when it’s on sale later.

Buy code-in-box if…

• You collect boxes or want something on the shelf.
• A shop has it cheaper than the console store, or you have a gift card or voucher for that shop.
• It’s a gift: a box is nicer to give than a code by email.

What about reselling?

With a disc you could sell the game later. A code is used once and then belongs to your account, so code-in-box behaves like digital here. If resale matters to you, there is no version of GTA 6 that keeps that option at launch.
